I am one of the organisers of SQLBits and this year we decided to make some real effort with the Community Corner.  Craig Porteous (@CPorteous) happened to offer to help at a time when we were considering how to make that happen.  Craig runs Glasgow User Group and SQL GLA which ran for the first time in 2017.

Jonathan (@Fatherjack) and I worked with Craig to explain our vision and Craig used his previous experience at SQLBits to make this happen.  With the effort he put in and the great job he did I decided there and then that I was going to attend his event.  I then decided to come up with a new session which I duly submitted too.  However I booked my flights and was determined to attend irrespective of whether my session got picked.  SQL GLA is happening on Friday 14th September at  67 Hope Street, Glasgow, G2 6AE.

I seem to spend a lot of time organising events and not speaking so I have decided that I need to try to do some more speaking, that is if people want me!

Anyway last Friday the email came in to say that my session was selected.  I’m thrilled, the line up is really great and I’m really looking forward to attending and presenting.

I’m on at 1:45pm and will be presenting “Developing SQL Code to keep your DBA happy”.  I’ve been a DBA for the last 3 years, prior to that I was a SQL Developer and now I’m both DBA and Developer and I want to use this session to explain all the things that I think SQL Developers should do so that the DBA doesn’t reject their code at go live.

I have also volunteered to help at SQL GLA but all in all I’m really look forward to the event and will do my best to do the best presentation I can.

You can register for SQL GLA from 1st June here and if you wish to volunteer email them volunteers@sqlgla.co.uk and I hope to see you there.
